Current Information:Age-34 Born-Merton Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France Between 5 June and 13th June 1916, 9th East Surrey of 72 Brigade, 24th Division were in the front line trenches at Wulverghem, in Belgium where they had to contend with regular shelling by the enemy and sustained a number of casualties, both wounded and killed. On the afternoon of 13th June, in retaliation for the British artillery shelling one of their strong posts, the enemy fired a number of shells at the positions held by 9th East Surrey wounding three men, including Charles Hall. He was evacuated to a base hospital in Boulogne where he died of his wounds on 22nd June, 1916. |
